Mark Dean, DO
Dr. Mark Dean, Dr. Mark Dean, DO completed his medical school training at Kentucky College of Osteopathic
Medicine in Pikeville, Kentucky. He then moved further south and completed both his neurology residency and neuromuscular medicine fellowship at University of Alabama at Birmingham.
He would say his pathway into neurology started all the way back in high school when he
worked at a level one stroke hospital as a CT tech aid. There he saw the efficiency, skill, and
compassion neurologists bring to the table every day. “It is simply my goal to give patients
peace and hope as they navigate complex neurological diagnoses.” Dr. Mark sees general
neurological complaints including headache, Parkinson’s Disease, Epilepsy, etc… but his true
passion lies within the field of neuromuscular medicine. He has a particular interest in
Myasthenia Gravis, neuropathy, ALS, and myopathy.
Dr. Mark and his wife Dr. Natalie are both transplants from Chicago and Sacramento to
Birmingham and have fallen in love with the people and city of Birmingham. The southern
hospitality is something Dr. Mark strives to mimic in his clinic every day.
“There is an incredible need for neuromuscular medicine in the community. People are
struggling every day with odd neuropathies, weakness, and pain and there are simply not
enough neurologists out there to help.” Dr Mark believes, a person shouldn’t need an advanced
degree to understand the disease that plagues their body and is excited to help patients
understand their diagnoses.
Dr. Mark is a husband, father, guitar player, and beekeeper and so it is not uncommon for him
to talk about any of these things during his office visit.
